Paste a customer's chat to fill the address and items automatically

Instead of retyping an address from WhatsApp, paste the messages into the new order page and let it fill the form for you to review.

Customers rarely send their details in a neat format. The name arrives in one message, the address in three, the pincode as an afterthought, and the actual order somewhere above all of that. The pasted text option on the new order page exists for this mess. You copy the conversation, paste it in, and the form fills itself.

How to use it

Open the new order page and find the fill from WhatsApp card. Below the upload button there is a text box with the placeholder paste the chat here. Copy the relevant messages from your phone or from WhatsApp Web, paste them in, and press read chat. A short reading message appears, then the form below is populated.

You can paste one message or a whole conversation. There is a fixed upper length for the pasted text, and a minimum too: a few words are not enough to read. If the text is too long, the page asks you to paste just the order messages, which is a good habit anyway, because less noise means a better reading.

What the form gets

The reading looks for the buyer's name, phone, email if there is one, and the address pieces: street, area, landmark, city, state and pincode. It also tries to match the items to your live products, including colour and size where the chat mentions them. If a product is not in your live catalogue, that line will not be filled in.

Items that need a decision, such as a product mentioned without a size, are called out in notes under the card. Take those seriously. The notes are the form telling you where it guessed or gave up.

What it cannot promise

Pasted chats contain typos, local spellings, abbreviations, shorthand quantities, and sometimes more than one address. The result is a first draft, not a verified order. A pincode with a missing digit will be caught by the form's own validation when you try to create the order, but a plausible wrong street or a swapped phone number will not be. You are the final check.

It is also worth remembering that the source and payment method are your choices. The reading does not decide whether the order came from WhatsApp or Instagram, and it does not know whether the customer has paid. Set those yourself on the form.

Editing after the fill

Every field remains editable. Change what is wrong, add a missing landmark, correct the quantity, add another item row if the customer ordered something the reading missed. When the form is correct, press create order. You land on the order page, where you can copy the customer link and send it back into the chat.

When the paste does nothing

If nothing happens, or you see a short error, you have three possibilities. The text may be too short or too long. The reading may have failed for a moment, in which case the page suggests trying again or filling the form by hand. Or order reading may be switched off for your store, which hides the card entirely. For the last case, see troubleshooting when order reading is switched off.

A better habit for customers

You can reduce the work on your side by asking customers for details in a fixed pattern: name, phone, full address with pincode, then product, colour, size and quantity. When people reply in that order, the reading is more accurate and your own double check is quicker.

If you want the screenshot route instead of the text route, fill an order from a WhatsApp screenshot explains it. For the manual order form as a whole, start with how to create an order for a customer who bought on WhatsApp.
