How to plan the festive season if you sell spices
Family cooking seasons and gift boxes need lead time. A week-by-week checklist for spice sellers, with no guessed dates or demand numbers.

Spice sellers feel festive demand in two ways. Families cook larger meals and stock up, and some customers want spices as gifts in a neat box. Both need preparation well before the rush, because you cannot grind, pack and ship overnight. This checklist is built around lead time, so you can work backwards from whichever date matters to you. Festival dates move each year, so check a calendar and count back yourself.
Pick the date and count backwards
Choose the date by which a customer must have the parcel. Then subtract the time your courier needs, the time you need to pack, and a buffer. Writing your own cutoff date on the store, such as "order by this day to receive before the festival", matters more than any guess about demand. The wider calendar approach is in festive season selling, a calendar for small brands.
Eight to six weeks before
- Decide which spices and blends you will feature, and which you will not. A smaller range is easier to stock well.
- Order packaging now: pouches, jars, boxes, labels, filler. Packaging shortages are a common festive bottleneck.
- Buy raw material with your usual sourcing in mind, and check quality before committing quantities.
- Sketch any gift box: which three or four spices, in what sizes, at what price.
Six to four weeks before
- Test the gift box. Pack one, send it to a friend and see how it arrives. The routine in how to pack spices so they reach the customer safely applies directly.
- Photograph the box and its contents in daylight. See which angles to shoot for every product.
- Set up the listing with pack sizes as variants and add a stock count for each.
Four to two weeks before
- Announce your last order date on Instagram and WhatsApp, and put it in your store text.
- Decide whether you will run a coupon. If so, keep it simple and capped, as in coupons that actually move stock.
- Start grinding and packing the items that keep well. Hold fresher ones back, since pack date matters for aroma.
- Brief any helper at home on the packing steps so quality stays the same on a busy day.
The last two weeks
- Check stock daily and mark sold-out items as out of stock instead of taking an order you cannot fill.
- Ship in batches at a fixed time of day so nothing sits.
- Reply to customers fast. Festive buyers are impatient.
After the rush
Note what sold, what did not and what packaging failed. Write it down while you remember. Ask buyers for reviews, because a few honest ones help the next season; see customer reviews on your own store. Reorder packaging for the next cycle before you forget the quantities.
A word on promises
Do not promise delivery dates you cannot control. Say when you will dispatch and let the courier tracking show the rest. Honest timelines protect your reputation more than a bold claim does.
