How do I connect Google Analytics to my online store?

Where the Google Analytics 4 field lives, what the Connect with Google button does when you see it, and how to read the Connected pill.

If you want to know how many people visit your store and where they come from, you need an analytics tool, and Google Analytics 4 is the one most sellers already have an account with. In your Varchas admin you connect it from Settings, then the Analytics and alerts tab.

Two ways to connect

The first card on that tab lists four rows: Google Analytics 4, Meta Pixel, Microsoft Clarity and Order Alert Email. The Google Analytics 4 row has a text field with the hint "Measurement ID, e.g. G-XXXXXXXXXX". You have two ways to fill it.

Paste an ID you already have. In Google Analytics, a web data stream has a Measurement ID that begins with G- followed by letters and numbers. Paste it into the field and press Save Settings. The admin checks the format: if it does not start with G- or contains odd characters, the save is refused with a message showing what the ID should look like.

Use the Connect with Google button. Beside the field there may be a button with that label. It starts a Google sign-in and, when it works, the admin reports "Connected" and says a GA4 property and Measurement ID were created for this store. That saves you from creating them by hand.

Why you might not see the button

The button is not shown on every store. It only appears when the platform's Google sign-in has been set up on the Varchas side. If your screen has only the text field, paste your ID instead. Nothing is broken; the field does the same job.

What the messages mean

After you come back from Google, a small status line appears at the top of the card. There are three outcomes:

  • Connected: a property and Measurement ID were created.
  • No Google Analytics account found on that Google login: the Google account you chose has no Analytics account. Create one at analytics.google.com, then try the button again.
  • Google sign-in was cancelled: you closed the Google window before finishing.

Anything else shows a general message to try again. If it keeps failing, use the paste option.

The Connected pill

Next to each of the four rows is a small pill. It says Connected in green when the field has a value, and Not connected in grey when the field is empty. Keep in mind what that means. The pill only tells you that something is saved in the box. It does not test the tag or confirm that data is arriving.

How to check it is working

Open your store in a browser, then check the real-time view inside Google Analytics. Your own visit should appear within a minute or so. If you do not see it, an ad blocker on your own browser is a common reason; try another browser or a phone without blockers.

What this does and does not give you

Entering the ID connects your store to your own Analytics property. What you see after that, such as reports and audiences, is inside Google Analytics, not in the Varchas admin, and nothing here guarantees particular numbers. For ideas on what to look at once data starts flowing, see connecting Google Analytics to your store.

Next in the same card

If you run Instagram ads, you will also want your Meta Pixel ID in the next row. If you would like to watch how individual shoppers move around, there is also the Microsoft Clarity option. All three can be filled in and saved together.
