How do I tell my brand story briefly for my store and bio?
A three-sentence formula covering why you started, what you make and who it is for, so your Instagram bio and store About section sound clear and honest.

Your brand story does not need to be a long essay about your journey. Visitors skim. They land on your bio or store, and within a few seconds they decide whether you are for them. Three clear sentences do more than a page of vague passion.
The structure: why, what, who for
Sentence one: why. The honest reason you started. Not a slogan, a reason.
Sentence two: what. What you actually make or sell, and one thing that is true about how you do it.
Sentence three: who for. The kind of person this is made for, or what they can do with it.
A worked example
Say a woman in Coimbatore makes hand-poured candles.
- Why: "I started pouring candles at home because I could never find one that did not give me a headache."
- What: "Now I make small-batch soy candles with cotton wicks, poured and labelled by hand."
- Who for: "They are for anyone who wants a quiet, gentle scent in a bedroom or study."
Put together, that is a story anyone can read in ten seconds. It is believable, specific and free of big claims.
Another example for a clothing label: "I began stitching kurtis for friends who struggled to find cotton that stayed comfortable in summer. Today we cut and stitch in a small Jaipur workshop in limited batches. They are for women who want everyday wear that is easy to wash and wear again." Notice the places and details come from real life. Use only yours.
How to find your sentences
Answer these in a notebook, quickly, without polishing:
- What made me start?
- What do I do differently from others, even in a small way?
- Who is the person I picture when I make this?
- What do customers say they like?
Pick the plainest answers. Circle words that sound like you talking, not like an advertisement.
Where to use it
- Instagram bio. There is little space, so use a shortened version of each sentence, or the second and third only.
- Your store's About section. Use all three, then add a photo of yourself or your workspace if you are comfortable. In the admin you can edit store details; see what can I change in my store settings.
- Packing notes and thank-you cards. One line is enough.
- Creator outreach. It gives the creator a clear picture; see what to write in a collaboration message.
What to avoid
- Invented achievements, awards or numbers you cannot prove. If you have not been featured, do not imply it.
- Words like "best", "premium" and "luxury" without anything to back them up.
- Long lists of values. Pick one thing you really do.
- Copying another brand's story. Customers can tell, and it hurts trust.
Keep it true and let it grow
If you are new and have no big story, that is fine. "I am starting this because..." is a perfectly good opening. You can update your sentences as your brand develops, adding details like years of experience or a workshop once they are real.
A short story that you can say aloud without embarrassment is the one that works. Read it to a friend. If they can repeat it back to you in their own words, you have it. Then check that your product pages follow the same tone, as in what a website says about a brand before anyone buys.
