What is a good product title formula for an online store in India?
A fill-in-the-blanks product title formula with two worked examples, so you can name every item in your catalogue the same clear way.

When you list ten products, naming them one by one feels easy. When you list sixty, the titles start to drift: some are long, some are poetic, some are just a code. A formula fixes that. It is not a secret that any platform rewards; it is simply a habit that keeps your catalogue consistent and understandable.
The formula
Fill in the blanks, then trim whatever does not apply:
[Key detail] + [Material] + [Product type] + [Size or quantity or use]
Optional at the end: a collection or colour note after a comma.
Read it aloud. If it sounds like something a person would say, keep it. If it sounds like a list of keywords, cut words until it sounds human again.
Worked example one: a candle
Say you pour soy wax candles at home. The blanks fill in like this:
- Key detail: Lavender
- Material: Soy wax
- Product type: Candle
- Size: 180 g, glass jar
Title: "Lavender Soy Wax Candle, 180 g Glass Jar". A buyer knows the scent, the wax, the weight and the container without opening anything. The numbers here are only an illustration; use your own real weight.
Worked example two: a sling bag
- Key detail: Hand-stitched
- Material: Canvas
- Product type: Sling Bag
- Use: Everyday carry, with a zip pocket
Title: "Hand-Stitched Canvas Sling Bag, Everyday Carry". If you also sell it in more than one colour, do not put every colour in the title; see should product titles include colour and size.
Rules that keep the formula honest
- Only claim what is true. If it is not pure cotton, do not write pure cotton.
- One idea per word. "Premium luxury exclusive" is three empty words; "Hand-stitched" is one specific one.
- Use the same order for every product. Consistency helps shoppers compare items at a glance.
- Write in title case or sentence case, but pick one and stay with it.
When the formula does not fit
Gift hampers, bundles and custom pieces rarely follow the blanks neatly. For a hamper, lead with the occasion or the contents: "Diwali Gift Hamper with Diya Set and Dry Fruits". Use judgement. The formula is a starting point, not a rule that beats common sense. If you sell hampers, this guide on starting gift hampers covers how to describe them.
Make it a template
Keep the formula in a note on your phone. When you add a new product, fill in the four blanks before you type anything into the product editor. On a Varchas store the name you enter becomes the heading shoppers see, and the description field below it is where the longer story goes, as covered in writing product descriptions people read.
Review once in a while
Every few months, scroll your own store on a phone and read only the titles. If two of them could be confused, or one means nothing to a stranger, fix it. Titles are cheap to change, and they do a lot of work every time someone looks at your catalogue.
