How do I get customers to share photos of my products?

Ask at the right moment, make it easy, and say thanks honestly, so happy customers share photos without feeling pressured.

A photo from a real customer is worth more than your best studio shot. It shows the product in a real home, on a real person, in real light. But most happy customers never think to send one. They liked the parcel, they put it away, they got busy. A gentle ask at the right time changes that.

I cannot tell you how many customers will respond. Some will, many will not, and that is fine. The point is to make the ask easy and kind.

Pick the right moment

Ask when the feeling is freshest. That is usually a few days after delivery, once the product has been used at least once. Asking on the day the parcel arrives is too early. Asking a month later is too late.

You can set this up in your own routine. When your tracking shows delivered, add a note in your calendar to message the customer a few days later.

Ask in a way that is easy

Make the request small. Not "please make a review video". Just one photo.

  • Hi [name]. I hope you are enjoying your [product].
  • If you feel like it, I would love to see a photo of it in your home. No pressure at all.
  • You can send it here on WhatsApp. If I may share it on my page, I will ask you first.

That last line matters. Sharing requires a separate yes, which is covered in how to ask permission to repost customer photos.

Put a prompt in the parcel

Include a small card in the box. A line like "Loved it? Send us a photo, we would love to see it" with your Instagram handle or WhatsApp number. A handwritten card feels more personal than a printed one. Keep it short and friendly.

Give a thank-you that is honest

A small thank-you is fine. It could be a free sticker or a note of thanks. Be careful with conditions. Do not promise a reward in exchange for a five-star review, and do not imply the reward depends on the photo showing the product in a good light. A gift that is offered for honest sharing, not for praise, keeps things clean. Always tell people exactly what they get and what you plan to do with the photo.

Make a branded tag

Choose a short tag and mention it on the card and in your bio, for example your shop name. Customers who post can use it, and you can see what people have shared. See how to use hashtags as a small seller for choosing one.

Show what you collect

When photos come in, say thank you publicly with the person's permission. Add them to a Highlight called Reviews or put them in a pinned post. New visitors see proof, and customers see their effort valued. Put the best ones on your store too, near the product, so that buyers see them where they decide. Reviews on your own store are discussed in customer reviews on your own store.

Be patient

Some months you will get several photos, some months none. Keep asking politely and keep delivering well. A good unboxing experience is the best reason anyone will ever pick up their phone for you.
