How to plan the festive season if you sell essential oils
Essential oils fit wellness gifting and the cold months, when buyers look for comfort. This checklist helps you prepare stock, bundles and packing before the busy weeks.

People often buy essential oils as gifts for someone who likes self-care, and as small comforts when the weather turns cool. That means your busy stretch may arrive in two waves, one for gifting and one for the colder months. Plan for both, and plan early, because glass bottles, labels and boxes all take time to source.
Start with the calendar
Festival dates change every year, so check this year's dates rather than relying on memory. Write down the occasions you want to sell for and the last day each parcel should reach the buyer. Subtract delivery time, packing time and listing time, and you get your stock-ready date. For the general method, see festive season selling for small brands.
Decide the gift range
Single bottles are fine, but gifts need a story. Consider these options.
- A starter pair of two popular oils in a small box
- A set built around a mood, for example calming or fresh
- A wellness hamper with an oil, a diffuser or a roll-on, and a note card
Cost every part, including bottle, label, box, tissue and card, and then check margin before pricing. If you are unsure about the maths, price from a target margin walks through it.
Stock and supplies, eight to six weeks out
- Confirm your supplier can deliver enough oil for the volume you expect, and order glass, droppers, caps and boxes.
- Print labels with accurate names, volumes and batch information. Proof them carefully, because relabelling later wastes time.
- Do a small test pack and a leak check on a sample bottle.
Photos and listings, six to four weeks out
Photograph the new sets using the approach in photographing essential oils. Keep the label readable and the glass free of glare. Write careful descriptions. State what each oil is, the volume, how to store it, and any usage cautions that you are sure of. Avoid health promises and avoid claims you cannot support. When in doubt, speak with a qualified person about what you may say.
Packing prep, four to two weeks out
Essential oils leak, so prepare your packing materials in advance, as in packing essential oils safely. Make a station with bags, absorbent pads, bubble wrap and boxes so you can pack quickly. Do a trial run of ten parcels to see how long it truly takes.
Announce and set cut-offs
Publish a last-order date for each occasion. Mention extra processing time if you personalise cards. Gift buyers worry about late arrival more than price, so being clear is a selling point.
During the rush
- Keep stock numbers accurate in your admin, so nothing sells that you do not have.
- Reply to questions fast. Many buyers ask whether a particular oil suits a gift.
- Send tracking details as soon as you have them.
Afterwards
Write down your best sellers, your slowest oils and the questions you heard most. Many of those questions belong in your product pages. Reach out to buyers with a thank-you and a reorder reminder for later in the season. Oils run out, and a happy customer is likely to come back.
Plan a realistic ceiling for orders per day. If packing leaks or label errors creep in because you are tired, you lose more than you gain, so stop taking orders when you reach your limit.
